What is Considered Disorderly Conduct?
Disorderly conduct is defined differently by different states and municipalities. These crimes are also sometimes called disturbing the peace or breach of peace. Under California law, disorderly conduct is defined as conduct that “disrupts public order.” Disorderly conduct is considered a misdemeanor, which is punishable by a maximum jail sentence of six months and a fine of up to $1,000.
Common offenses prosecuted under the disorderly conduct law include:
- Public drunkenness/intoxication
- Window peeping
You don’t want to place yourself in a situation where you have to explain why you have a disorderly conduct conviction to a future employer. However, since a background check will be performed, you may simply not be offered the job based on your criminal record.
